Words by John Cage (from Silence) read by Benedetta Casagrande
An audio-visual perspective of John Cage's composition 4'33"
Operating within the framework of John Cage’ lessons collected in the volume ‘Silence’ (1961), the video is an experiment in disrupting hierarchies between sound and image embracing the serendipitous labors of chance at work in meaning-making. Editing is approached with the spirit of Claude Levi Strauss' ‘bricoleur’, who creates through the assembly of material fragments offered by their immediate surroundings, crafting an audio-visual repertoire which eludes linear story-telling in favor of multiplicity, or absence, of meaning.
Screened as part of "John Cage 4'33" Reinvented" by Città Sonora for Milano Music Week, October 8 and 9, 2021.
The video was also shown as part of MicroActs 10 - An Evening of International Artist Film, screening at Anatomie Studio, London, on January 26th, 2022.
